Gene McAvoy, Associate Director of Stakeholder Relations at Univ. of FL SW Research and Education Center has positively identified Late Blight (Phytophthora Infestens) in tomatoes in south Florida. Late Blight symptoms are purplish lesions with indefinite borders.Late blight is a "oomycete fungus" that can attack tomatoes and potatoes. It can spread rapidly and devestate a tomato or potato field. Our recent foggy mornings and temperatures in the upper 50's and low 60's have been suitable for disease development. Consider the use of Zampro fungicide or Forum fungicide as a preventative treatment to control late blight in tomatoes or potatoes. Consult current UF/IFAS recommendations for all labeled fungicides for the control of late blight in Florida. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/cv/cv13700.pdf
