With recent Fall rains occurring across much of TX and OK, the Winter wheat crop is off to a great start! Problematic weeds such as feral ryegrass, Italian ryegrass, various brome species, and other Winter annual broadleafs are actively germinating with this moisture. One difficulty with no-till/cover crops is the ability to utilize residual herbicides due to concerns over proper activation. Fortunately, the encapsulated formulation in Prowl H2O Herbicide aids in wash-off from cover crop residue and achieves superior surface stability when compared to other ‘yellow’ herbicides.Pendimethalin formulations were sprayed on corn residue, allowed to dry 15 minutes on corn residue, and then rinsed with water to evaluate ability to wash-off of plant material on the soil surface. Rinsate was then analyzed for pendimethalin presence. These data show that the Prowl H2O formulation aids in wash-off from plant material covering the soil, and therefore getting more herbicide to the soil surface where it needs to be to control germinating weeds.Prowl H2O has superior surface stability at high temperatures compared to trifluralin and pendimethalin EC. This means more opportunity for the active ingredient to hit the soil surface and control germinating weeds. If the active ingredient disappears, so does your weed control!Lead recommendations for No-Till/Cover Crop applications in cotton and peanuts: - 3 pints per acre minimum in no-till and/or cover crop situations - Apply pre-plant (March / April) and activate with a minimum of 1 inch of water - 10 GPA minimum - Can be tank mixed with Engenia herbicide, Liberty herbicide, 2,4-D, glyphosate (increase rate by 25%), and/or N fertilizer - Can be chemigated - Can be impregnated on dry bulk fertilizer (Min. of 200 lbs/A)
