Did you know that if one resistant pigweed plant is left uncontrolled in a field it could potentially produce a million plants the next season?
The picture you are viewing is identified as a Redroot pigweed (Amaranthaceae). It can be described as a coarse erect annual that usually will grow about 2 to 3 feet tall.
The lower leaves are often red or red-striped, with color noticeable down the taproot. Leaves have long petioles and prominent veins. Flowers are small, green and tightly arranged in large, branched, spike-like, terminal clusters.
Germination occurs anytime during the growing season with sufficient moisture
