Many growers planted April soybeans this year. For those who planted dicamba-tolerant soybeans, the 45-day POST application cutoff window may be soon coming to an end. For example, soybeans that were planted on April 10th can only have Engenia® herbicide applications up until May 25th. While we still have time to complete POST applications on these soybeans, it is important to start watching the forecast for the right spray day. Pairing Engenia with a residual product like Outlook® herbicide or Zidua SC® herbicide can provide the residual needed to get soybeans to crop canopy and maintain a weed-free field this spring. With the cooler temperatures, soybeans have been slower to grow. This means that it may take a higher rate of Outlook or Zidua than originally planned to protect against the extra time needed to get to canopy.
As you can see, waterhemp has emerged in the Southern geographies, making Engenia a vaulable option in the tank. Please remember to check your surroundings and follow all label requirements when applying Engenia. After the cold snap this coming weekend, it will be best to evaluate stands on your early planted soybeans and start looking for the right spray day. A planned approach will lead to success in both on-target application and season long weed control when using Engenia in your dicamba-tolerant soybean system.
