If you have seen some weed escapes in your corn and soybean fields recently, you might want to consider upgrading your soil-applied herbicide. Looking for some of the important features you may be looking for, I nominate Verdict® herbicide for corn and Zidua® Pro herbicide for soybeans.
These two herbicides check the box with features you need to start clean, use multiple modes of action, and provide strong residual as step one of your overlapping residual program.
Verdict® herbicide is my top choice for corn as it has a proven track record for reliable weed control and flexibility. Its use rate in field corn is 10–18 oz/acre, depending on soil type.

Powered by two active ingredients (saflufenacil and dimetjenanid-P), Verdict herbicide offers two modes of action on problem weeds. Both active ingredients are also able to be activated by a minimal amount of rain, helping to control weeds if conditions are relatively dry following planting.
Verdict herbicide can be used as a pre-plant burndown when tank mixed with 1 pt/a MSO, or it can be applied pre-emerge after planting but prior to crop emergence. Verdict herbicide is compatible with liquid fertilizer and can be combined for a weed and feed application. Speaking of flexibility, Verdict herbicide is also labeled on seed corn, popcorn, sweet corn, and soybeans. Check the use rates for each crop.
If you run through the rotation restrictions on an herbicide label, many times herbicides that bring the weed control power of Verdict herbicide will have restrictions on what crops can be planted the following year. When using Verdict® herbicide, you can put your mind at ease, as any crop can be planted in the next cropping season.
Powered by three active ingredients (pyroxasulfone, saflufenacil, and imazethapyr), Zidua® Pro herbicide has three modes of action for outstanding grass and broadleaf weed control. The use rate is 4 to 6 oz/acre, depending on weed pressure and spectrum. I would always use 6 oz/acre if you have giant ragweed.

With three modes of action, there are at least two modes of action working on almost every problem weed. The pyroxasulfone component offers the longest residual control available for problem weeds such as Waterhemp and Palmer amaranth. With saflufenacil and imazethapyr activating with little soil moisture, weed control is available early and in drier conditions, while pyroxasulfone, which needs more moisture for activation, will provide the long residual.
Zidua® Pro herbicide can be used as a pre-plant burndown when tank mixed with 1 pt/a MSO, or it can be applied pre-emerge after planting but prior to crop emergence.
Before mixing components, always conduct a compatibility jar test. Always consult respective product labels for specific mixing instructions. The most restrictive label applies.
